It's almost time!

Happy New Year & welcome to the new joiners! So glad to have you all here. We kick off the challenge tomorrow!

The challenge is to eliminate any “added” sugar. There are some gray areas to this… there are sugars and sugar substitutes that are better alternatives such as coconut sugar, monkfruit, stevia, and sugar alcohols such as erythritol, maltitol & xylitol. At the end of the day, added sugar is still sugar but these are the gray area products that you can either incorporate or refrain from using. Personally, I consider the use of monkfruit or sugar alcohols okay as long as it is still a small amount but you can choose to proceed with this area as you wish!

Things you don’t need to refrain from and can happily incorporate are natural sugars such as those found naturally in products such as fruit, vegetables, dairy, etc! On a label you will find these sugars listed as “total sugars” they would not be included in “added sugar” on a nutrition label. If the added sugar label is above 0, we don’t want it! Honey and pure maple syrup are also considered “natural sweeteners” and are okay to use throughout the challenge.

Many of you are probably thinking “well what can I eat?” The best way to put together your meals is to aim for whole food sources; meats/fish/tofu/lentils/beans, vegetables, fruit, eggs, yogurt, cheeses, grains; quinoa, couscous, rice, potatoes, sweet potatoes & go from there! Starting as simple as possible may be the easiest way until you get a better understanding of what is in certain products!

If you have any questions on products or items to use/avoid feel free to comment below or send me a message!
