Day 15/30
Just like that we’re halfway through the January challenge!! Keep up the great work & determination and keep trying to work on your self-discipline!
Going off of yesterday’s topic, I mentioned the realistic reality of not being able to give 100% everyday. This ties into what I would like to talk about today - the idea of black and white thinking.
For some reason, when it comes to our health & fitness, many of us have black and white thoughts. For example, if we’re traveling and don’t have access to our own food/gym, we may as well just eat all the bad things we can find that day. Or, because it’s a weekend day - we HAVE to have a cheat meal because that’s what you always do. Or, you’ve had a bit of a cheat day on Saturday so you might as well go the whole weekend and restart on Monday.
Thinking this way is like thinking you forgot to brush your teeth one morning so you skip in the evening too, or you forgot to pack your kids lunch one day so you skip the rest of the week too. When we think the same way with regular life tasks it makes no sense. So why do we do this with our health & nutrition!?
Think about it this way - if we were playing a game of darts where you get 30 shots. You win by getting the highest average points. Would you rather hit the bullseye once and miss the board completely the other 29 times, or get very close to that bullseye most of the time and just have a few outliers?
We want that second one! Especially when it comes to our health and nutrition. So what if you got tied at work and couldn’t go to the gym today, you don’t need to stop for fast food on your way home - you can still do your piece by having a good dinner! So you overate on Saturday for a night out, you can still get back to eating good meals on Sunday and not putting it off until Monday!
These little things add up and they add up quickly when we keep doing them! You don’t need to feel like you have to keep “starting over.” Focus on making this your lifestyle and aiming to get close to your bullseye as often as you can!
If you have questions or comments on this way of thinking whether it be how to change it, notice it, etc, or if you’ve experienced times like this before, feel free to leave a comment below!
Definitely tried to keep this mentality on our holiday! Was not a no added sugar vacation... but tyring no to throw out every prinicpal and still made lots of good food choices and got a couple beach walks in each day. Home now and back at it. Have loved these challenges and am just going to extend the days. I have essentially followed so many of your tips since the very first challenge and love it!
