DAY 13 - RETHINKING SWEETNESS

By now, many people notice that their relationship with sweet foods feels different.

Not gone, just quieter.

If you've dabbled in anything sweet, you may have noticed sweetness may taste more intense. Cravings may feel less urgent. You may notice satisfaction coming from foods that didn’t feel “sweet enough” before.

When added sugar is reduced, taste buds adapt. Foods like fruit, yogurt, or even roasted vegetables can begin to taste sweeter over time. After around 10 days, your taste buds begin an initial palate reset. Since our tastebuds are regenerating every 10 days or so, foods can start to really taste different. For this to fully come into effect it usually takes 3-4 weeks for the tastebuds to become fully re-sensitized.

This shift doesn’t happen because you’re forcing anything. It happens because your baseline has changed. Sweetness becomes something you notice, not something you chase.

Added sugar often creates a “more, more, more” feeling. Natural sweetness paired with protein, fiber, and fat tends to feel grounding and complete.

You may notice:

  • Being satisfied with less sweetness

  • Enjoying slower, more intentional bites

  • Feeling done without feeling deprived

As you move through today, notice how sweetness shows up:

  • What tastes sweet?

  • Is there anything you're eating that tastes different than it did before?

  • What feels satisfying?

  • What feels like too much?

There’s no right or wrong answer. Awareness is the goal.

This challenge isn’t teaching you to avoid sweetness. It’s teaching you to experience it differently, with more clarity and choice.
