DAY 7 - SOCIAL MOMENTS

You’ve made it to a week! That is something to be proud of!!

By now, you may be noticing that added sugar isn’t just something you eat. It’s something that shapes habits, cravings, and even social moments.

Today is about understanding that cycle — and how stepping out of it, even briefly, creates space for choice.

The Sugar–Craving Loop

Added sugar tends to create a self-perpetuating pattern…

When we eat it, blood sugar rises quickly. That rise feels goo, energizing, comforting, or uplifting. But as blood sugar falls, the body looks for relief, and cravings return, often stronger than before.

Over time, this can look like:

  • Wanting something sweet more often

  • Feeling pulled toward sugar in familiar situations

  • Using sugar to get through fatigue, stress, or social moments

This isn’t about willpower. It’s biology + habit working together.

Reducing added sugar interrupts that loop, not overnight, but gradually. And once the cycle quiets, cravings often feel less urgent and easier to respond to thoughtfully.

Social Settings Make the Cycle More Visible

You’ve begun to notice that sugar is very social… dessert after dinner, sweet drinks, celebrations, casual snacks, etc. When you step out of this pattern, even temporarily, it can feel uncomfortable — not because you’re missing out, but because the habit itself is being challenged.

You might notice:

  • Cravings triggered by environment, not hunger

  • Wanting sugar because it’s “what you usually do”

  • A desire to join in, even if you don’t physically want it

That awareness is progress.

Flexibility Without Falling Back Into Autopilot

This challenge isn’t about avoiding sugar forever or navigating social moments perfectly. It’s about noticing when a choice is driven by habit versus intention.

Before making a decision, pause and ask:

  • Do I want this, or is it familiar?

  • How will this choice make me feel afterward?

  • What feels supportive in this moment?

Sometimes the answer is to participate. Sometimes it’s not. You get to decide.

Continue to be present today, check in with yourself often, and continue to create balanced, high protein meals to set yourself up for success throughout the day!

Like the awareness reminders... had major sugar cravings yesterday! Its been awhile since I felt like that. Maybe too many sweet indulgences at chrsitmas?!

Back to the protein/veg/fruit prep for the week... makes me feel way more organized and prepared. Can you remind me of some tips to incorporate extra protein options like cottage cheese, or chickpeas in various recipes? I was liking some of those options before, but cant find where I put the recipes I had printed using them?

Hope the group is going well:)
