DAY 1 - START BY NOTICING!
Welcome to Day 1 of Sweet Enough January
If you’re here on Day 1, take a breath.
You don’t need to overhaul your kitchen today. You don’t need to “get it right.”And you definitely don’t need to be perfect because that may seem VERY challenging.
Today is about noticing.
Before we focus on what to eat or what to avoid, the most important part of this challenge is learning how to pay attention — to what’s in your food, and to how your body responds when things start to shift.
Use the first 1-3 days depending on how comfortable you feel, to notice the added sugar you usually consume, when you crave it and how it ultimately makes you feel. Once noticing these things, we do want to slowly shift to a replacement/removing that item all together.
Notice What’s in Your Food
As you move through today, begin to gently observe where added sugars show up. This might be obvious (desserts, sweet drinks), or it might surprise you (sauces, dressings, packaged snacks, breads).
There’s no need to judge or criticize what you find. Awareness isn’t about doing better — it’s about seeing clearly.
If it helps, ask yourself:
Was this sweetened on purpose, or automatically?
Is this something I’d still choose if I paused first?
Notice How You Feel
As added sugar starts to come out, you may notice changes quickly — or not at all. Both are normal.
Some people feel:
More stable energy
Stronger cravings at certain times of day
A slight headache or fatigue
A surprising sense of calm
None of these mean you’re doing something wrong. They’re simply information.
Pay attention to:
Your energy from morning to evening
Your hunger cues
Your mood, focus, or irritability
When cravings tend to show up
You don’t need to fix anything you notice. Just take it in.
This Is Not a Test
Day 1 is not about willpower. It’s not about proving anything to yourself. And it’s not about “being good.”
Sweet Enough January is designed so that awareness comes before change. The more you understand how food — especially added sugar — affects your energy and emotions, the easier confident choices become later.
Today, your only job is curiosity.
A Simple Day 1 Intention
If you’d like one gentle intention for today, let it be this:
“I’m paying attention, without judgment.”
That’s it.
You’re exactly where you need to be. We’ll build from here — one meal, one observation, one day at a time.
